Butter Spritz Cookies

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA

I do make Butter Spritz every year at Christmas time so this recipe also was part of my 2012 Christmas Baking Madness. I love using my cookie press and am always excited when I press out the perfect shape. This recipe also makes a bunch of cookies for one batch so this is often what I will make if I’m in a cookie exchange.

Printable Recipe: Butter Spritz

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter, softened to room temp.

  • 1 – 1/4 cup powdered sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

  • 2 – 1/2 cups flour

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • sugar crystals and/or food coloring

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350. In a large bowl and using a hand mixer at medium speed, beat butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. In a smaller bowl, combine the flour and salt. Gradually add the flour mix into the butter mix using the hand mixer at medium speed. If tinting the dough (looks great when using the tree plate if your dough is tinted green), add food coloring now and thoroughly blend it into the dough using the hand mixer. Place the dough in the fridge for 10 minutes to firm up.

Place dough in a cookie press and utilize any plate you would like. I used the flower plate this year. Cookies do not spread out much and cookie designs can be closer together.

Sprinkle cookies with sugar crystals. Bake for 6-8 minutes until cookie is firm. If your edges are brown then they are overcooked.

Allow cookies to completely cool on the cookie sheet. Store in an airtight container.
